As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and good luck. The goal is to move your checkers safely around the board to your home board while at the same time your opposition moves their checkers toward their inside board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers shifting in opposite directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for specific tactics at specific times. Here are the last two Backgammon techniques to round out your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to slow down the opponent to move her chips, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely barricade any movement of the opposing player by building a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get bumped, or end up in a bad position if she at all tries to escape the wall. The ambush of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your game board. After you have successfully built the prime to stop the activity of your competitor, the opponent doesn’t even get to roll the dice, and you move your chips and toss the dice yet again. You will win the game for sure.

The Back Game Plan

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game plan are similar – to hinder your opponent’s positions hoping to improve your odds of winning, but the Back Game strategy relies on different techniques to do that. The Back Game tactic is commonly utilized when you’re far behind your competitor. To participate in Backgammon with this technique, you have to control 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This plan is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon because it needs careful movement of your pieces and how the chips are moved is partially the outcome of the dice roll.
