In exceptionally simple terms, there are three fundamental plans used. You must be agile enough to switch techniques almost instantly as the action of the match unfolds.
The Blockade
This involves creating a 6-deep wall of pieces, or at a minimum as thick as you might manage, to block in your opponent’s checkers that are located on your 1-point. This is deemed to be the most adequate strategy at the start of the game. You can assemble the wall anyplace between your 11-point and your 2-point and then move it into your home board as the game continues.
The Blitz
This involves closing your home board as quickly as as you can while keeping your challenger on the bar. i.e., if your competitor tosses an early two and shifts one piece from your one-point to your 3-point and you then toss a five-five, you will be able to play 6/1 six/one eight/three eight/three. Your opponent is now in serious calamity due to the fact that they have two pieces on the bar and you have locked half your home board!
The Backgame
This plan is where you have two or more checkers in your competitor’s home board. (An anchor spot is a point occupied by at a minimum 2 of your pieces.) It needs to be played when you are significantly behind as this strategy much improves your opportunities. The better places for anchors are near your competitor’s smaller points and either on adjacent points or with one point in between. Timing is crucial for an effective backgame: after all, there’s no point having two nice anchors and a solid wall in your own home board if you are then forced to break up this right away, while your challenger is shifting their checkers home, taking into account that you don’t have other additional pieces to shift! In this situation, it is more favorable to have checkers on the bar so that you might preserve your position up until your competitor provides you an opportunity to hit, so it can be a wonderful idea to attempt and get your opposer to get them in this situation!
