In astonishingly general terms, there are 3 general tactics used. You want to be able to switch tactics almost instantly as the course of the match unfolds.
The Blockade
This is composed of building a 6-deep wall of checkers, or at least as thick as you might achieve, to block in the competitor’s checkers that are on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most adequate procedure at the begining of the match. You can assemble the wall anyplace within your eleven-point and your two-point and then move it into your home board as the game continues.
The Blitz
This consists of closing your home board as quickly as as you can while keeping your challenger on the bar. For example, if your opponent tosses an early 2 and moves one checker from your one-point to your three-point and you then toss a 5-5, you are able to play six/one six/one 8/3 8/3. Your challenger is then in big-time calamity considering that they have two checkers on the bar and you have locked half your home board!
The Backgame
This course of action is where you have 2 or more pieces in your competitor’s inner board. (An anchor spot is a point occupied by at a minimum 2 of your pieces.) It must be used when you are extremely behind as it greatly improves your circumstances. The better places for anchors are near your competitor’s smaller points and also on adjoining points or with a single point separating them. Timing is important for an effectual backgame: at the end of the day, there is no reason having 2 nice anchors and a complete wall in your own inner board if you are then forced to dismantle this straight away, while your opponent is moving their pieces home, because you don’t have any other additional checkers to shift! In this situation, it’s better to have pieces on the bar so that you can maintain your position up until your challenger provides you a chance to hit, so it will be a wonderful idea to attempt and get your challenger to get them in this case!
