As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of talent and good luck. The aim is to shift your chips safely around the game board to your inner board and at the same time your opponent shifts their chips toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers shifting in opposite directions there is going to be conflict and the need for particular strategies at particular instances. Here are the two final Backgammon tactics to complete your game.

The Priming Game Tactic

If the goal of the blocking tactic is to hamper the opponents ability to move her checkers, the Priming Game tactic is to absolutely barricade any movement of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s chips will either get bumped, or result a battered position if he/she ever attempts to escape the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point 2 and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully assembled the prime to block the activity of your competitor, the competitor doesn’t even get to roll the dice, that means you shift your checkers and roll the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game tactic are very similar – to hurt your competitor’s positions with hope to improve your chances of succeeding, however the Back Game strategy uses alternate techniques to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is often utilized when you’re far behind your opponent. To compete in Backgammon with this strategy, you need to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single piece) late in the game. This strategy is more challenging than others to use in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your chips and how the pieces are relocated is partially the result of the dice roll.
