As we have dicussed in the previous article, Backgammon is a game of ability and good luck. The aim is to shift your pieces carefully around the board to your inside board while at the same time your opponent shifts their pieces toward their inner board in the opposite direction. With competing player checkers shifting in opposing directions there is bound to be conflict and the need for particular techniques at particular times. Here are the last two Backgammon tactics to round out your game.

The Priming Game Plan

If the purpose of the blocking strategy is to hamper the opponents ability to move her chips, the Priming Game strategy is to completely barricade any movement of the opponent by assembling a prime – ideally 6 points in a row. The opponent’s pieces will either get hit, or end up in a bad position if he at all tries to leave the wall. The trap of the prime can be setup anywhere between point two and point eleven in your half of the board. Once you’ve successfully constructed the prime to stop the movement of the competitor, the opponent does not even get a chance to roll the dice, that means you shift your pieces and roll the dice yet again. You’ll be a winner for sure.

The Back Game Strategy

The objectives of the Back Game strategy and the Blocking Game strategy are similar – to harm your competitor’s positions hoping to improve your chances of winning, however the Back Game plan utilizes alternate tactics to achieve that. The Back Game tactic is generally employed when you are far behind your opponent. To participate in Backgammon with this tactic, you have to hold 2 or more points in table, and to hit a blot (a single checker) late in the game. This technique is more complex than others to employ in Backgammon seeing as it requires careful movement of your chips and how the chips are moved is partially the result of the dice toss.
