In extraordinarily simple terms, there are three chief plans used. You need to be able to hop between game plans almost instantly as the course of the match unfolds.

The Blockade

This involves creating a 6-thick wall of checkers, or at least as deep as you might achieve, to barricade in the competitor’s checkers that are located on your 1-point. This is judged to be the most acceptable tactic at the begining of the game. You can assemble the wall anywhere between your 11-point and your two-point and then shuffle it into your home board as the match progresses.

The Blitz

This consists of locking your home board as quick as as you can while keeping your competitor on the bar. e.g., if your competitor rolls an early 2 and shifts one piece from your 1-point to your three-point and you then roll a 5-5, you are able to play 6/1 6/1 eight/three eight/three. Your opposer is then in serious dire straits considering that they have two checkers on the bar and you have locked half your inside board!

The Backgame

This course of action is where you have 2 or more pieces in your opponent’s home board. (An anchor spot is a position filled by at least two of your checkers.) It would be used when you are extremely behind as it greatly improves your chances. The best areas for anchors are towards your opponent’s smaller points and also on adjoining points or with a single point separating them. Timing is critical for an effectual backgame: besides, there is no point having two nice anchor spots and a complete wall in your own inner board if you are then forced to break apart this straight away, while your opposer is getting their pieces home, considering that you do not have other extra checkers to shift! In this case, it is better to have checkers on the bar so that you are able to maintain your position up till your competitor provides you a chance to hit, so it will be a great idea to try and get your competitor to get them in this case!
